L'Image et le livre was founded in 1976 by Georges André. Located at the time on rue des Couples, Georges André made it the first place in Strasbourg where you could find antique prints and rare books that weren't solely focused on Alsace. His children, Michel and Mireille, joined him and further developed the store, opening a second window on rue Sainte-Catherine, dedicated to prints. Since 1986, L'Image et le livre has been located at 12 rue Jacques Peirotes, still in the Krutenau.
April 2019, Michel André retires and Solène Bisch takes over. She holds master's degrees in art history from the Ecole du Louvre and the University of Strasbourg, and has worked in galleries in Strasbourg and Paris.
