Description

Paris, Editions de la Cigogne, 1931; in folio of 4 ff., 135 pages, 4 ff. Full vellum, covers and spine hand-painted by the artist, filled cover with title page, lined slipcase. Slight rubbing to the slipcase, small loss to a spine of the folder. Prefaced by Pierre Champion and illustrated with 64 etchings by Barta. Edition of 200 copies, here one of 150 on Rives vellum. The vellum boards and endpapers of this copy were hand-painted by the illustrator. An enclosed certificate from Barta attests that he carried out this work exclusively for this copy. Laszlo Barta (1902 – 1961), a Hungarian-Jewish artist, left his country because of the advent of Nazism and settled in Corsica, where he took an active part in the Resistance. A fine and unique copy in this binding.
