Plan of the battle of Fontenoy won on XI May M.DCC.XLV by the French army commanded by the King over that of the Alliez under the orders of the Duke of Cumberland. Jean de Beaurain (1696 – 1771), cartographer and geographer. Copper engraving. 18th century. Hand-colored. Creases including central horizontal and vertical folds, three tiny restorations in the framing border. Sheet size: 455 x 595 mm. Board size: 389 x 508 mm. The terrain of the plan (…) was drawn and surveyed on the spot by Mr. l’Abbé aide de Camp de Mgr. le Prince de Soubise. A good proof of this unusual plan.

Printed by Becquet and published by Sinnett in Paris. Sheet size: 465 x 588 mm. Subject size: 342 x 501 mm. Minimal foxing to the caption, a very slight vertical crease, slight marginal insolation. A very fine proof.
