in folio
Wien, Förster’s artistische Anstalt, 1847 to 1851. 5 large folio volumes, each with approximately seventy etching plates. Brown half calf with corners, smooth spine with false ribbing and gilt fillets, title page. Staining on 2 plates in the first two volumes, very slight foxing and handling marks. Each volume is complete with plates. Year 1847: 69 plates including a large folding plan of Vienna, 7 plates of buildings in the Berlin Zoological Garden, 6 plates of the bridge over the Rhine near Vieux-Brisach. Year 1848: 80 plates including 2 plates on the bridge over the Ill near Sundhoffen. Year 1849: 73 plates including 8 plates of palace facades and Venetian buildings, 7 plates on the railway line from Paris to Saint-Germain, 6 plates on Camden station. Year 1850: 71 plates including 3 plates on La Chapelle station, Paris. Year 1851: n°374 to 437: 63 plates including 5 on railroads and 19 on stations. Beautiful set featuring views and elevation plans of buildings and engineering structures built in Europe. Some plates are folding, but the overall effect is one of great finesse.
