The Passage of the Red Sea. Engraved by Nicolas Chaperon (1612 – 1656) after Raphael (1483 – 1520), copperplate engraving on laid paper. 17th century. Minor foxing, central vertical fold. Sheet size: 363 x 472 mm. Block size: 242 x 320 mm. From the suite of engravings depicting Raphael’s frescoes in the Vatican Lodges. This sensemble made Nicolas Chaperon famous. He was also a painter and draftsman, and a pupil of Simon Vouët. Very fine proof with large margins.
